About

Ask research scientists what they’re optimistic about, and their responses provide an exhilarating and positive vision of the future.

This is exactly what we do.

Their responses detail a brighter future for humanity, and give us an intriguing insight into the minds of some of the UK’s leading scientists. They show how these seemingly ordinary men and women grapple with extraordinary matters, and how their work greatly benefits the common good.

The New Optimists: Scientists view tomorrow’s world and what it means to us, described by Jenny Uglow in the Foreword as “this most exhilarating of books”, is our first publication.

Written by over 80 leading medics, life scientists, engineers, chemists, computer and digital media scientists, environmental and energy experts working in the West Midlands, this book will be launched on 14th September, the first day of the 2010 British Science Festival being held in Birmingham.
